The Most Posted Occupations in Hull and East Yorkshire That Require a Degree
Are you considering your future career options, thinking about a change of career, or simply interested in the most in-demand jobs that require a degree? Using data from the labour market analysis company Lightcast, we have investigated what the most posted occupations were in Hull and East Yorkshire in 2023 that ask for a degree. Read on to find out more.
The Health and Social Care Sector Dominates
The health and social care sector accounts for over 14% of all jobs in Hull and East Yorkshire, totalling over 38,000 jobs (Source:ONS). The sector’s size, coupled with the staffing shortages that it is having to contend with, means it is no surprise it dominates the list of the most posted occupations in Hull and East Yorkshire in 2023 that require a degree. Twenty-seven per cent of all unique online job posts in Hull and East Yorkshire in 2023 that ask for a degree were in the health and social care sector, including eleven of the fifty most posted occupations. Other Registered Nursing Professionals topped the list with 6% of all unique online job posts. The health and social care occupations with the most unique job posts include:
· Other Registered Nursing Professionals (1st)
· Registered Nurse Practitioners (3rd)
· Health Services and Public Health Managers and Directors (6th)
· Optometrists (10th)
· Physiotherapists (12th)
· Dispensing Opticians (13th)
· Occupational Therapists (20th)
· Speech and Language Therapists (33rd)
· Specialist Medical Practitioners (41st)
· Other Psychologists (48th)
· Therapy Professionals (49th)
Demand for Accountants is High
Occupations in the service sector feature highly in the top posted occupations in Hull and East Yorkshire in 2023 that require a degree, with 15% of all unique job posts being from the sector. Demand for accountants is high; Chartered and Certified Accountants was the second most posted occupation, accounting for 5% of all unique job posts. Other financial occupations that feature are Financial Managers and Directors (27th) and Financial Accounts Managers (45th). Other service sector occupations in demand include Advertising and Marketing Associate Professionals (23rd), Human Resources and Industrial Relations Officers (32nd), Marketing and Commercial Managers (44th), and Chartered Surveyors (50th).
Education Professionals Required
The requirement for education professionals is high. In 2023, they accounted for 10% of all unique job posts that asked for a degree in Hull and East Yorkshire. Higher Education Teaching Professionals was the eighth most posted occupation, Secondary Education Teaching Professionals the eleventh most posted occupation, and Education Managers the thirty-ninth most posted occupation.
Manufacturing and Engineering – The Region’s Largest Sector
Over 17% of jobs in Hull and East Yorkshire, more than double the Great Britain average, are within the manufacturing and engineering sector (Source:ONS). Occupations in the sector accounted for 9% of all unique job posts that required a degree in 2023. The greatest demand was for Production and Process Engineers, which was the seventh most posted occupation. Also in demand were Production Managers and Directors in Manufacturing (19th), Electrical Engineers (21st), and Mechanical Engineers (22nd).
Strong Demand for IT Professionals
Since 2015, the creative and digital sector in Hull and East Yorkshire has been the fastest growing sector, with the number of jobs working for companies within it growing by 33%. It is no surprise, therefore, to discover that Programmers and Software Development Professionals was the fifth most posted occupation in 2023 requiring a degree, accounting for 3% of all unique job posts. In addition, IT Managers was the fortieth most posted occupation and IT Business Analysts, Architects and Systems Designers the forty-third most posted occupation. Together, these three occupations accounted for 5% of all unique job posts that required a degree in Hull and East Yorkshire in 2023.
Construction is Crucial
According to the latest Business Register and Employment Survey, there are over 15,500 jobs in the construction industry in Hull and East Yorkshire, and it is the only sector to appear in the top three for job growth since 2015 by both number of jobs and percentage of jobs. Two important occupations from the construction sector feature in the most posted occupations in Hull and East Yorkshire in 2023 that require a degree. Quantity Surveyor is the twenty-fifth most posted occupation and Civil Engineers the twenty-ninth. Together they account for 3% of all unique job posts.
