Goole has always centred around the docks, locks and canal basins built by the Aire and Calder Navigation Company in 1826. Goole was the meeting point of the canal and the River Ouse, and as such it became an important trading centre and link out to sea. Today it is the busiest inland port in the country. Significant investment is happening in Goole with Siemens Mobility choosing to locate their state of the art Rail Factory here.
