The Design Manager co-ordinates the design process across the entire construction process. They will ensure all necessary information is shared across the design and project teams, to ensure the project is delivered to the Client’s expectations. 


Day to day activities may include:

  • Overseeing, motivating and encouraging internal and external design teams
  • Ensuring structural drawings and designs are produced on time, to a high quality, and are easy to decipher
  • Overseeing the design process using technical expertise
  • Identifying and avoiding errors and reducing financial risk during construction
  • Working with Clients to ensure that their expectations are met
  • Reducing health & safety risks in the design
  • Ensuring designs are available to those who require them in a timely manner, whilst maintaining thorough documentation and audit trails of the design process
  • Ensuring the design complies with building legislation and codes of practice relating to design

Progression into Building Information Modelling (BIM) or Project Director.

What can I expect to earn?

Salaries for this role are dependent on experience. Examples are as follows:


Newly trained Design Manager £25,000 - £30,000

Trained with experience Design Manager £30,000 to £60,000

Senior, Chartered or Master Design Manager £70,000 to £90,000
