The Site Manager is responsible for the day-to-day running of the construction site. They will organise work on the site, ensuring it is completed safely, on time, within budget and meets the Client’s specification. They will be responsible for the logistics, staffing and materials/subcontract call offs to ensure the project meets these requirements. 


Day to day activities may include:

  • Management of contracted construction workers, subcontractors and motivating the workforce
  • Conducting quality and safety inspections
  • Maintaining quality control checks
  • Day to day problem solving and dealing with any issues that arise
  • Using specialist project management programmes
  • Checking and preparing site reports, designs and drawing
  • Chairing site management meetings

As a Site Manager you could progress to a more senior role such as Project Manager, Contracts Manager or specialise in areas such as estimating, health & safety or building inspection. Gain Chartered membership. 

What can I expect to earn?

Salaries for this role are dependent on experience. Examples are as follows:


  • Assistant/Trainee Site Manager £25,000 - £35,000
  • Trained with experience Site Manager £35,000 to £45,000
  • Senior or Chartered Site Manager £45,000 to £50,000
